Issue 46 - Please Don’t Burn the Bridges
Dart Build Hooks. Who is Hiring. Productive Codebase Using AI Tools. AGI Still Decade Away. 3 Folder System. Node Flow. Influence tech politics. Ideas Arise Through Action. Typing accuracy & more.
I didn’t know the meaning of “burn the bridges” until someone pointed it out after I did. For those unfamiliar, it means leaving a company on really BAD terms. Things go wrong all the time, but leaving on bad terms creates a sour taste, not just with leadership, but with the entire company.
I worked at a company for around two years, but over time, disagreements developed between the leadership and me. Instead of understanding our differences, I kept fighting to make things work. I was fighting for things I believed in, but I wasn’t clever enough to pick my battles. Every battle is not yours to fight—you have to let some things go. That’s where I made my mistake: I took everything personally and fought for everything I could.
When I left the company, I said bad things about them and the leadership. I pointed out their mistakes without realizing mine. To this day, I feel that was one of the biggest mistakes of my entire career. Now whenever I meet those people, I can’t comfortably look them in the eye.
You might think the tech community is so big that no one would know. But in reality, our tech community is small, and word gets out pretty quickly. Everyone in your network will eventually hear about you and how you conduct yourself. That’s why it’s crucial to pick your fights carefully and never leave on bad terms.
After a certain number of years in this industry, networking becomes your best asset. It helps with everything—getting into companies, building trust, showcasing your work. But most importantly, people remember how you behave and how you bring teams together to get things done.
So Choose your battles wisely and always leave on good terms—your reputation and network are your most valuable career assets.

1. How I influence tech company politics as a staff software engineer by sean goedecke
I used to avoid politics and always assumed it was the worst part in tech companies, but gradually, I began to comprehend it and leverage it to my advantage.
Keeping a backlog of ideas and pitching them at the right time is crucial advice. Even the best idea may fail if the timing is incorrect. For instance, attempting to launch a new AI project during a period of significant management changes or layoffs would be a bad idea.
2. Ideas Arise Through Action by More To That
It turns out that the writing itself is where the ideas come from
📺 Videos to Watch:
1. Andrej Karpathy — AGI Is Still a Decade Away
If you’ve watched any video this week, than this one is a must watch. A 3hr long video, but worth every minute. Here is my takeaways:
The misstep of AGI was thatm it wastrying to derive it from games, which do not interact with the real world like an accountant does.
Humans do not become intelligent solely through Reinforcement Learning; RL apply to motor skills rather than intellect skills.
Andrej’s focus is on creating practical applications rather than replicating animals.
To enhance an agent’s performance, eliminate internet-acquired knowledge and retain only the core intelligence (algorithm) for generating output.
The model loses memory upon boot-up, but it is restored with the brain’s rejuvenation during sleep-wake cycles.
Advising AI firms against over-reliance on AI.
Describing how a tutor’s ability to balance challenging tasks with easier ones aligns with an individual’s worldview.
Mention of the “eureka per second” concept.
2. Beyond Prompts- My 3-Folder System for Effective AI Coding in Flutter
A good way to organize your AI prompts, history, and documents is to avoid repetitive mistakes. Personally, I save shorthand commands that I continuously write in a single document and use via tools like Raycast or Claude command to add addtional input into prompts.
